British Columbian Lottery Corp Online Gambling Site Still Down

August 6, 2010

Several weeks ago the British Colombian Lottery Corporation had introduced a website, PlayNow.Com, that would allow residents of the province to play regulated and legal online gambling games.

The popularity of PlayNow.Com had ended up bringing down the site. Unable to hold the horde of traffic hitting the site, the servers had been shut down.

Though the British Colombian Lottery Corporation has been working to bring the servers back up and re-release the site, PlayNow is still showing an apology to those who have been affected by the server crash.

“I had been looking forward to the regulated casino games,” began Joshua F., an optimistic gambler. “I guess everyone else was too, ’cause [sic] the site still is not open and ready to go.”

The B.C.L.C. has introduced the first government licensed and regulated online gambling website in North America. The province’s change in policy has opened doors to other possibilities, such as Quebec considering the regulation of online gambling.

Unfortunately, the United States has yet to open their doors to allow regulated online gambling. While efforts are in place to bring about the regulation of gambling on the Internet, most notably H.R. 2267, or the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, there has been limited success thus far.

USA online gambling may soon be regulated, but the legislation required is still in its infancy. Online casinos and USA online poker rooms are likely to be those that are regulated.
