Australian cricket probed for gambling fraude

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Wednesday that an Australian cricket player was approached by a person involved in illegal gambling and betting fraud, the ICC started an investigation into the matter.
The government body, the ICC received reports from the Australian team, after a player from the Australian cricket team was approached by a man linked to illegal gambling and betting fraud. The player who remains unidentified notified team senior officials, which notified the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the ICC. Australia will face off against England in the fifth and final cricket test in the Oval, for a chance at the ICC Cricket World Cup. Chances on the game are estimated equal, where England needs to win in order to win back the cup. A spokesperson for the ICC said: “I can confirm the ACSU has received a report from Australia team management. The anti-corruption and security unit of the ICC has developed and implemented a fairly comprehensive education programme for all international players and every single international player has undergone that education and is aware of his responsibilities to report any suspicious activity that he feels he may have been subject to.” The ICC also mentioned that they are full of praise for the player and the management for the rapid notification of the gambling fraud case. Gambling fraud in sports is common, sports bettingcan be affected by players who want to make extra money by betting on their own matches, which is illegal. Not so long ago an Accrington Stanley player was suspended for 8 months for internet gamblingon his own game, he entered money in an online accumulator at an online casino bettingagainst his own team. The UCSA was introduced in 2000 after allegations of fraud by the team captain of the South African team.
