Mega Moolah progressive jackpot won at $6.3m

May 8, 2009

Dramatic news over the weekend is that the Microgaming Progressive Network’s over $6.3 million jackpot for Mega Moolah has been won.

Details of the big win, which sets a new Internet gambling jackpot record, were still awaited as InfoPowa went to press Sunday morning, but a Microgaming spokesman confirmed the full jackpot had been hit, which eclipses the previous record win of $5.5 million in 2008.

Microgaming pays out its progressive jackots in one tranche and in full.

Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey Remain on American Idol

May 3, 2009

The verdict is in and the lone female was sent home packing Wednesday night on American Idol. Allison Iraheta said her good byes and then there were three:  Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey.

In what was a bit of a surprise, Kris Allen turned out to get the most votes.  His performance Tuesday night was lackluster at best, but the viewers apparently thought otherwise.

This was the first time that Danny Gokey appeared in the bottom three (actually the bottom two).

Next week, the three singers will travel to their hometowns before performing next week.

His odds, as seen at BetUS.com, were listed paying 2/1 prior to Tuesday night’s performance show.

Kris Allen had become quite a long shot, with odds of 12/1.

Adam Lambert was still the favorite, coming into Tuesday night’s show with -250 odds.

BetUS.com was scheduled to update its American Idol betting odds by no later than Friday.

Steve Ives, Managing Director of Betfair Games said: “Betfair is very excited to reach agreement with Jadestone to offer their DiceArena platform to our two million registered customers.”

“We are very pleased to announce Betfair as a future partner on the expanding DiceArena network,” said Andrew Pegler, UK Director at Jadestone. “We are proud of our existing partner portfolio and Betfair represents another top tier operator keen to tap into our supply of next generation multiplayer games.”

In partnering with Betfair, Jadestone anticipates a significant increase in the player liquidity levels of its DiceArena network that is already benefitting from its strategy of creating robust iGaming networks and gaining synergies from interconnecting their liquidity.

Barney Frank Makes the Television Rounds Talking Online Gambling

May 2, 2009

Barney Frank’s proposed legislation to overturn a 2006 ban on Internet gambling was the talk of the airways Wednesday.  Frank is in high demand to appear on television news programs as he has thrust himself into the role of trying to solve the US economic crisis.

Even Lou Dobbs asked Congressman Frank about the online gambling legislation during an appearance on the popular CNN program.

Nearly every major media outlet including print picked up on the story.

The House Financial Services Chairman said Wednesday at a news conference introducing his bills that he hadn’t spoken to either House or Senate leadership nor to the Obama administration about the online gambling bills.  He said he planned on pushing them through Congress some time in August.

Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington authored another bill that would tax regulated online-gambling companies.  Interestingly enough, Washington is the only state that makes it a Class C felony to place bets online.

So what is the media saying in response to Frank’s plans?

From Fox News:

"If running major financial institutions and the auto industry isn’t enough for the Obama administration, a new House bill would put the Treasury Department in charge of Internet gambling."

Needless-to-say, Citizen Link wasn’t all that thrilled about Frank’s determination to overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).

Chad Hills was the only one quoted by that media outlet.  He is an analyst for gambling and research at Focus on the Family.

"Frank is pushing dangerous, foreign gambling policy down the throats of U.S. citizens and families who do not want this predatory industry soliciting and exploiting them or their children.

"This is irresponsible and belligerent governance on Rep. Frank’s behalf."
