A new online gambling business based in the United States called Centsports.com is operating within the law by giving its customers money to gamble with.

The site works like this: CentSports gives members ten cents of “play money” to gamble with on just about any sporting event. Members can accumulate money if they win their wagers, and once they get to $20, they can cash out their balance, trading the play money for real money. Cash out is not as easy as just clicking a button on the site, but it is possible to earn real money from nothing.

PokerStars giving out 200 WSOP packages today

The biggest World Series of Poker qualifier anywhere online is taking place today at PokerStars.

The poker site is hosting a qualifier for the 2008 WSOP Main Event that will have a guaranteed 200 prize packages to give out.

The 200-seat satellite has a $350+$20 buy-in and takes place at 4:30 p.m. ET today. To register, poker players will need to open the PokerStars lobby, click Events and then click on WSOP.

Panel to U.S. state legislators: Regulate online gaming

An online gaming consultant and the director of e-Commerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance told a gather of state legislators that state governments should start regulating the industry rather than banning it.

Frank Catania, who is also the former assistant attorney general and the director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, told the annual meeting of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States in Napa, Calif., that the online gambling industry isn’t going anywhere any time soon, according to an article at online-casinos.com:

Moving from Playdough to Real Dough

I know that in the play games you can rarely get anyone to ever fold. I tried doing the 3 or 4 bet raising there and determined I did better with the play money when I just waited for premium hands and went all in because any dummy will call, but I know it will be vastly different at a cash table.

But I am wondering how well do the micro limit cash player play? Do they understand that a 4 bet raise is a possible big pocket pair or will they do what playdough players do and call with anything? At least as far as your experience tells you. I worked my way up from play money on three different sites, then starting at the lowest limits on PokerStars (1/2 cent cash and $1.20 SNG).

Talk of PartyGaming settlement with U.S. premature

PartyGaming Plc saw its stock fall as reports that the online gaming and poker company was nearing a settlement were called “premature.”

PartyGaming is trying to resolve the fact that it illegally facilitated gambling in the U.S. in 2006.

According to majorwager.com:

PartyGaming dropped as much as 8.3 percent as Numis Securities analyst Richard Carter said a deal related to the company’s activities in the U.S. after an online-gaming ban may be “several months off.” The shares rose the most in seven months in London on May 30 on speculation it had reached an agreement.

Day 7: You’ve got that WSOP feeling

Another afternoon of poker brings two more final tables playing for a winner, a star-studded World Championship Mixed Event and plenty more action at the Rio.

Play got under way a little later than planned for the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em with Rebuys event, starting at closer to 3:30 p.m. rather than 3 p.m. However, it has already seen three bracelet hopefuls hit the rail as the final nine play down to a winner today.

The first bust-out was a double one, as both Steve Gross and Jamie Rosen were all-in on Hand 5 of final-table action against Lyric Duveyoung. Neither player had a good enough hand to beat Duveyoung, or the chips to match.

Day 10: Ladies, start your engines

The big news of the day today at the 2008 World Series of Poker will be the start of the Ladies No-Limit Hold’em World Championship.

The Ladies Championship has a long history as a World Series of Poker event, going back to 1977, just seven years after the WSOP got its start. That inaugural event had a $100 buy-in, bringing the ladies together to play some Seven-Card Stud.

Jackie McDaniels won it the first year, and the event has since become a deeply rooted WSOP tradition.

Lindgren tops Bonomo for first bracelet at WSOP; Singer takes pot-limit title

Erik Lindgren survived a table full of seasoned professionals to win his first World Series of Poker bracelet, outlasting Bodog pro Justin Bonomo for the title in event No. 4, $5,000 mixed hold’em.

The final table also included such stars as Howard Lederer, David Williams Roland de Wolfe and Isaac Haxton.

Lindgren entered the final table in sixth place but walked away with the top prize of more than $374,000. Previously he had amassed nearly $6 million in lifetime earnings and two World Poker Tour titles.
